The Norwegian Nobel Committee says it has received credible reports that Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi — who was detained and given an additional multi‑year prison sentence amid Iran’s broader crackdown on protesters and reformists — was severely beaten in custody (allegedly struck with wooden batons, dragged by her hair and kicked) and denied timely medical care, leaving her with scalp wounds, open injuries and possible fractures and prompting the committee to warn the abuse is life‑threatening. The committee called her imprisonment arbitrary and unjust and demanded her release and guaranteed access to urgent medical treatment.
