The Trump administration has awarded five new contracts totaling $3.3 billion to expand its high‑tech "Smart Wall" along the U.S.–Mexico border in Texas and Arizona, bringing total spending on the system to $8 billion. CBP says the project will ultimately include 1,418 miles of primary Smart Wall, 536 miles of waterborne barriers, and 708 miles of secondary wall, with hundreds of additional miles covered by detection technology, and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem has issued nine waivers since October to fast‑track construction in multiple sectors.
