Dominican President Luis Abinader authorized the U.S. to operate inside restricted areas at San Isidro Air Base and Las Américas International Airport in Santo Domingo, enabling refueling, equipment movement and deployment of technical personnel to support counter‑narcotics missions. Announced alongside U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Nov. 26, the limited, temporary agreement will stage KC‑135 tankers for aerial refueling and C‑130s for medevac, firefighting, weather reconnaissance and disaster relief—marking the first major public Caribbean host‑nation support tied to recent U.S. maritime strikes that have killed at least 83 since early September.
