DHS, via FEMA, suspended Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley from federal funding on Nov. 19–20 and proposed a rare six‑year debarment after auditors found major grant‑compliance violations in migrant-aid programs. Internal notices cited inconsistent intake data, missing A‑numbers, and at least 248 instances of billing outside the federal 45‑day service window; the suspension applies only to the Rio Grande Valley affiliate, which has 30 days to contest the action.
