President Trump signed an executive order launching the "Genesis Mission," a DOE‑led AI supercomputing initiative OSTP adviser Michael Kratsios called the largest marshaling of federal scientific resources since the Apollo program, to begin on existing supercomputers across DOE’s 17 national labs with plans to build more and to tap private‑sector partners such as Nvidia and Dell. The program aims to automate experiment design and accelerate simulations and modeling (including protein folding and fusion plasma dynamics) to shorten discovery timelines from years to days or hours, support energy goals like reducing grid costs, and extend challenge portfolios to other agencies, though funding details are unclear and may require congressional approval.
