Louisiana authorities say all eight inmates who escaped from the Riverbend Detention Center in Lake Providence were back in custody less than 24 hours after they were discovered missing at 1:20 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31, 2026. Officials have not yet detailed how the breakout from the East Carroll Parish jail occurred or how each fugitive was tracked down, but recaptures were announced in three waves through Friday afternoon and into early Saturday, including at least one arrest involving police nearly two hours away in Yazoo City, Mississippi. The men, ages 19 to 31, were all described as violent offenders being held on charges such as murder, aggravated assault with a firearm and aggravated flight from an officer.
