Louisiana State Police said Saturday that all eight inmates who escaped from the Riverbend Detention Center in East Carroll Parish around 1:20 a.m. Friday have been taken back into custody after a large multi‑agency manhunt. The escapees — Savion Wheeler, 31; Hugo Molina, 27; Trenton Taplin, 29; Kolin Loney, 21; Kevin Slaughter Jr., 25; Destin Brogan, 22; Krisean Salinas, 21; and Kopelon Vicknair, 19 — were all described as violent offenders, with at least three facing murder charges, though officials have not yet explained how they got out. Five were captured Friday and the remaining four were found by early Saturday in operations involving state police, multiple parish sheriff’s offices, city police departments, state wildlife officers, probation and parole, the U.S. Marshals Service and the FBI. The final four were transferred by helicopter to the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, where all eight are now being held, as state police publicly praised the coordinated response and Attorney General Liz Murrill lauded law enforcement’s "outstanding" work. The breakout and rapid recapture highlight ongoing concerns about security at local detention facilities, particularly during the same week Louisiana was coping with a severe winter storm that strained public‑safety resources.
