Capgemini to Sell U.S. Government Consulting Arm After ICE Tracking Contract Revealed
French consulting and IT giant Capgemini says it will divest a U.S.-based division that provides consulting services to government agencies after public reporting revealed it holds a $365 million contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement to help identify and locate immigrants. The Paris-based firm’s move comes just days after watchdog group Multinationals Observatory publicized several Capgemini–ICE contracts, including the large tracking deal, drawing scrutiny amid nationwide backlash to Trump-era immigration enforcement tactics. CEO Aiman Ezzat told the Wall Street Journal he only recently learned of the ICE work from public sources, suggesting the relationship was not widely known even at the top of the company. The sale, if completed, would remove one major foreign tech contractor from ICE’s tracking apparatus and underscores how public pressure campaigns are starting to reshape which multinationals are willing to touch controversial U.S. enforcement contracts. It also highlights how a relatively opaque vendor ecosystem underpins ICE’s ability to track immigrants at scale, even as that ecosystem comes under growing legal, political and reputational fire.
