An internal DHS document shows Border Patrol made more than 270 arrests in Charlotte under "Operation Charlotte’s Web," but fewer than 90 — under one‑third — were classified as "criminal aliens," even as the department publicly portrayed the surge as targeting dangerous offenders. About 200 agents led by commander Gregory Bovino were deployed and have since demobilized, after an operation that prompted protests, widespread fear and school absences, reports of some U.S. citizens detained, and plans or discussions of further deployments to Raleigh and New Orleans.
