Chemical Attack

Savannah police and the FBI are investigating an acid attack near Forsyth Park that left 46‑year‑old Ashley Wasielewski with second‑ and third‑degree burns over roughly half her body after a stranger hurled a corrosive chemical at her around 8:15 p.m.; her clothes and car keys melted and she was transported to the Augusta Burn Center, where she is stable but faces skin grafts and long‑term care. The FBI has offered a $5,000 reward, and a person of interest seen in a “Bugs Bunny” hoodie voluntarily answered questions but was not detained or labeled a suspect as detectives canvas the area, review video and work with the bureau to identify the chemical, with officials saying there is no evidence of a broader public threat.
