In a recent Wall Street Journal interview, President Donald Trump, 79, said he has been taking a full 325 mg 'adult' aspirin every day for 25 years to 'thin' his blood, a dose four times higher than the 81 mg lower dose typically recommended for cardiovascular prevention. In response, preventive cardiologists told NPR that higher doses offer no added heart benefit, increase bleeding risks—especially in older adults—and conflict with U.S. Preventive Services Task Force guidance that people over 60 generally should not start daily aspirin for primary prevention and may reasonably stop around age 75 unless they have specific heart conditions.
