A Franklin County grand jury declined to indict 48-year-old Jacob Lee Bard, a parent of two Kentucky State University students, on murder and first-degree assault charges in a Dec. 9 on-campus shooting in Frankfort, Kentucky, that left one student dead and another critically injured. Bard’s attorney says jurors found he acted in self-defense as masked attackers allegedly beat his son during an attempted assault by a group of 20–30 people, leading to his release from jail and closure of the case while the university pledges to focus on campus safety and support for students.
