California Winter Storm and Avalanches

Rescue and recovery around Castle Peak/Frog Lake have slowed as crews from multiple agencies reassess risks and test the snowpack amid a continuing winter storm, high avalanche warnings and heavy new snowfall that have made backcountry access dangerous. Early reports said a 16-person party (four guides and 12 clients) left six survivors sheltering while others were unaccounted for; later updates confirmed multiple fatalities and searches continue for remaining missing people.
