An hourslong weekend power outage in San Francisco left tens of thousands without electricity and caused dozens of Waymo self‑driving cars to freeze at darkened intersections, blocking traffic and prompting the company to temporarily suspend its ride‑hailing service across the Bay Area. After the mayor’s office contacted Waymo about the gridlock its roughly 1,000 vehicles were causing, the firm pulled the cars from service until shortly after 3:30 p.m. Sunday, while nearly 19,000 PG&E customers still lacked power and the utility projected full restoration by 2 p.m. Monday.
