Vance Armenia Visit Sees Deleted 'Armenian Genocide' Post and Nuclear-Deal Framework
Vice President J.D. Vance made a historic visit to Yerevan — the first time a sitting U.S. president or vice president has gone to Armenia — where he received a red‑carpet welcome, met Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, signed an agreement to advance negotiations on a U.S.–Armenia civil nuclear energy deal and pledged U.S. exports of advanced chips, surveillance drones and infrastructure investment. His official X post saying he visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial “to honor the victims of the Armenian genocide” was deleted and replaced (the White House called it a staff mistake), and Vance declined to use the word on camera, calling the events “a very terrible thing” from a little over a century ago. The visit also reiterated an August White House framework — including a U.S.‑backed 32‑km transit corridor dubbed the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” linking Azerbaijan to Nakhchivan — which has been initialed by foreign ministers but still awaits leaders’ signatures and parliamentary ratification.
