Robert A.M. Stern, the acclaimed American architect and former Yale School of Architecture dean, died Thursday at age 86, his firm RAMSA announced, saying he died comfortably at home with no cause disclosed. Stern, a leading figure since the 1980s known for contextual, tradition‑inspired designs, created Manhattan’s 15 Central Park West, the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas, and the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia.
