Amazon opens claims in $2.5B FTC Prime settlement
Amazon customers can now seek refunds under a $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission over allegations the company used deceptive practices to enroll people in Prime and made cancellation difficult. The claims process, tied to a September 2025 deal that includes $1.5 billion in customer refunds and a $1 billion civil penalty, covers people who signed up for Prime through certain 'challenged enrollment flows' between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, with eligible users able to recover up to $51 of membership fees after being notified by email or mail and filing within 180 days. Refunds will be issued via PayPal, Venmo or mailed checks once Amazon reviews claims within 30 days of submission.
