Minnesota measles cases hit 80, MDH warns of more
Minnesota has recorded 80 measles cases in 2026, the most in a single year since 1990, and state health officials say they expect more cases as measles circulates widely.[1]
The Minnesota Department of Health says all but two cases are in people who have not received two doses of the MMR vaccine.[1] Seventy-one percent of the cases are in children under 18, and more than 4,500 measles cases have been reported nationwide this year.[1]
Low local vaccination rates, which remain below pre-COVID levels, have left communities vulnerable as the virus spreads nationwide.[1] MDH says it expects additional Minnesota cases in the coming weeks as the outbreak continues to move through undervaccinated populations.[1]
