Brooklyn Park teen in July park killing to be tried as adult

Hennepin County Judge Rachel Hughey on Tuesday ordered 17-year-old Nyzeir A'shoun Reay of Inver Grove Heights certified to stand trial as an adult on two counts of second-degree murder in a Brooklyn Park park shooting.[1]

Reay faces two counts of second-degree murder for the July 5 shooting at Hartkopf Park that left a 16-year-old boy critically wounded and later dead.[1] U.S. Marshals arrested Reay on July 29 in Peoria, Illinois, on a Hennepin County warrant before he was extradited back to Minnesota.[1]

Police said the victim was shot in the head around 10:45 p.m. during the July 5 incident at Hartkopf Park.[1] The certification means he will be tried in adult court.[1]
