MDHR: Coon Rapids credit union, Minneapolis bar illegally refused Tribal IDs
The Minnesota Department of Human Rights found probable cause that Wings Financial Credit Union in Coon Rapids and The Office Pub and Grill in Minneapolis illegally refused to accept Tribal IDs from Native customers.[1]
MDHR says the credit union repeatedly denied a Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate member access to her account when she used a valid Tribal ID.[1] The agency says the bar refused service three times to a Red Lake Nation member who presented his Tribal ID to prove his age.[1]
Minnesota law says that if a Minnesota identification card is accepted, a Tribal identification card must also be accepted.[1] MDHR says it enforces those civil-rights protections on non-Tribal lands across the state.[1]
MDHR made the probable-cause findings after investigating the two complaints, the agency reported.[1]
