Apple Valley man gets 40 years for 2025 park murder

Seneca Jones of Apple Valley was sentenced Monday, Oct. 5, 2026, to 40 years in prison for the killing of 19-year-old Darnell Mapp at a Minneapolis park.[1]

Jones was convicted in August after a two-week trial and was credited with 320 days for time served.[1]

Mapp was shot and killed at the park in July 2025, and witnesses told police that Jones and Mapp had been feuding over stolen property before the shooting.[1]
