Federal Judge Temporarily Blocks Trump Border Wall In Texas Big Bend

On Friday, October 2, 2026, U.S. District Judge Kathleen Cardone issued a preliminary injunction blocking border wall and related construction in Texas' Big Bend sector.[1]

The order covers Big Bend National Park and about a 500-mile stretch of the sector, and it pauses work tied to a $46 billion Trump administration border infrastructure effort.[1] Plaintiffs including the Center for Biological Diversity said the Department of Homeland Security waived environmental, cultural and archaeological protections to speed construction.[1] U.S. Customs and Border Protection had already erected initial wall panels in mid-September and had temporarily paused work inside the park after bipartisan opposition.[1]

In addition to federal land, the injunction extends to projects on private property where the government had been seeking access and had signaled possible Justice Department action against non-cooperating landowners.[1]

The order is preliminary, so the government can ask a higher court to undo it while litigation continues over whether the waivers were lawful.[1]
