Minnesota cannabis sales top $250M in first year
Minnesota's legal cannabis industry generated more than $250 million in combined adult-use and medical sales in its first year of retail, state regulators reported.[1]
About $150 million came from adult-use sales and roughly $100 million from medical products.[1] Including lower-potency hemp edibles and beverages, the industry produced $45.6 million in state tax revenue from September 2025 through July 2026.[1] More than 300 new cannabis businesses have launched, and about 1,100 have received preliminary state approval.[1]
Retail sales began on Sept. 16, 2025, after Minnesota legalized adult-use cannabis and created a regulated retail system.[1] The Office of Cannabis Management says the early rollout saw lottery and supply problems in some areas, which prompted a deliberate, paced approach to bringing retailers online.[1]
OCM Director Eric Taubel said regulators are pacing the rollout to build a sustainable, statewide market rather than rush expansion.[1]
