K9 bust of UPS cocaine leads to guns, arrests in Columbia Heights
On Sept. 10, a MACP narcotics detective and K9 Goldy flagged two UPS packages that contained about 23.13 pounds of cocaine, prompting arrests and a weapons seizure in Columbia Heights.[1]
Both parcels were shipped from La Mesa, California, and one was addressed to 909 Gould Ave. NE, Apartment 557, where detectives staged a controlled delivery.[1] Detectives arrested Hamza Ali Salah as he retrieved the package and then searched Apartment 557, arresting Nabil Ali Salah during the search.[1] Police seized two Glock handguns fitted with machine-gun conversion devices, an AK-47-style rifle, extended magazines and a large amount of cash.[1]
The packages were first flagged at a Minneapolis UPS sorting facility, and a warrant search later uncovered the cocaine hidden in layered packaging.[1] Authorities say the discovery led them to stage a controlled delivery to the Columbia Heights unit and coordinate arrests to identify who shipped and received the drugs.[1]
