Minneapolis repeat offender gets 20 years in ghost gun case
Esau Chucky Sago, 36, of Minneapolis, was sentenced to 240 months in federal prison and five years of supervised release on Sept. 3, 2026, after pleading guilty to illegal ammunition possession.[1]
The 240-month term equals 20 years.[1] Sago has nine felony convictions, including domestic assault, domestic assault by strangulation, fleeing police in a motor vehicle, threats of violence, and vehicle theft.[1] His record qualifies him as an armed career criminal, a designation that carries a 15-year mandatory minimum.[1]
On Oct. 10, 2024, Sago led New Hope, Crystal, and Robbinsdale officers on a high-speed chase through residential areas at more than 70 mph before Minneapolis officers stopped his vehicle with a PIT maneuver.[1] Investigators later recovered a loaded unserialized handgun from a knocked-down fence, and Bureau of Criminal Apprehension forensics found Sago's DNA on multiple parts of the weapon and on ammunition.[1]
Prosecutors and court records described the recovered firearm as a "ghost gun" and tied the illegal ammunition charge to that weapon during sentencing.[1]
