Dual Citizen Sailor Arrested In Canada On U.S. Child Exploitation Charge

Donald Steven Lang, 62, a dual U.S.-Canadian citizen, was arrested in Canada over the weekend at the request of U.S. authorities on a federal child-exploitation charge.[1]

A federal grand jury in Hawaii indicted Lang on August 20, 2026, on one count of sexual exploitation of children tied to alleged abuse aboard his 55-foot sailboat Ishi between September and December 2024.[1]

The FBI said Lang was last seen aboard Ishi in Hawaii in January 2025.[1] The agency warned he might be sailing across the Pacific and listed ties to Hawaii, Idaho, Washington, California, Fiji, the Marquesas Islands, Mexico and Canada.[1]

Prosecutors are seeking forfeiture of Lang's sailboat and digital devices if he is convicted, and he also faces separate Idaho charges filed in April 2025 alleging abuse of a minor from 2003 to 2007.[1]
