Alfalfa Sprouts Recalled After E. Coli, Salmonella Sicken 55 People

The FDA said Friday that alfalfa sprouts produced by Minneapolis-based Everything Sprouts have been linked to an E. coli and salmonella outbreak across 15 states, prompting a recall.[1]

Everything Sprouts voluntarily recalled certain lots of alfalfa sprouts supplied beginning May 27 to distributors and retailers in Minnesota and Wisconsin under the Everything Sprouts and Calco brands.[1] The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says at least 55 people fell ill and four were hospitalized between May 31 and August 8.[1] Minnesota and Wisconsin have reported the largest numbers of cases so far.[1]

FDA and state health officials investigated illnesses reported across 15 states and traced the outbreaks to alfalfa sprouts from Everything Sprouts.[1]
