MPD touts 88 arrests by new violent-offender unit
Minneapolis police say their Violent Criminal Apprehension Team has made 88 arrests since the unit became operational on March 24, 2026.[1]
Those arrests include 17 for murder, 10 for first-degree assault, 14 for second-degree assault, and 5 for aggravated robbery.[1] The tally also includes 4 criminal vehicular-homicide or operation charges, 3 domestic assaults, 3 sexual assaults, 2 robberies of a person, 1 carjacking and 30 other violent-crime warrants.[1]
MPD also announced a new Firearm Assault Shoot Team, or FAST, that will respond to every shooting that produces a victim.[1] FAST will include MPD, Metro Transit, Ramsey County, the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Bloomington police and the ATF.[1] Officials say FAST aims to lift non-fatal shooting clearance rates to above 60 percent in 2026, up from 47 percent in 2025.[1]
