Magnitude 7.7 Quake Hits Indonesia, Killing At Least Five People

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off Indonesia's Flores region at 5:58 a.m. local time Saturday, August 15, 2026, killing at least five people.[1]

Police said two people died in Sikka Regency and three in Manggarai Regency, and authorities briefly issued a tsunami warning that was later lifted.[1]

The U.S. Geological Survey placed the quake's epicenter about 42 miles north-northwest of Ende in East Nusa Tenggara province.[1] Collapsed buildings, power outages, hospital evacuations and communication disruptions are hampering search and rescue operations across the region.[1]
