Blumenthal Demands Pentagon Explain Conditions, Mission Of USS Lincoln Deployment

Sen. Richard Blumenthal on August 12, 2026 demanded that the Pentagon explain the conditions and mission of the deployed aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.[1]

Navy leaders in April dismissed earlier reporting of shortages as fake news, but they have since acknowledged supply problems tied to the war with Iran and said the USS Theodore Roosevelt will be sent to relieve the Lincoln.[1]

Blumenthal's letter seeks clarity on why the carrier has been kept at sea, what military objective it serves, and what steps the Navy is taking to protect sailors' health and readiness.[1]
