Elliot Park apartment fire injures firefighter, displaces four families

A fire broke out just before 10 a.m. Saturday in a three-story apartment building on the 1000 block of Portland Avenue near Elliot Park, injuring a firefighter and displacing residents.[1]

Firefighters arriving at the building found heavy smoke and flames coming from third-floor windows and called a second alarm to contain the blaze.[1] One Minneapolis firefighter was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening injury, and residents from four apartment units were displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.[1]

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation by the Minneapolis Fire Department.[1]
