Federal immigration officers arrested more than 1,200 undocumented immigrants in the Atlanta area, including about 720 who were convicted of or charged with crimes, officials said when announcing the operation.[1]
The sweep was conducted under the name Operation Safe Community - Atlanta and focused on people in the country illegally with criminal histories.[1] DHS said the arrests included convictions or charges for sex offenses, assault, domestic violence and driving under the influence.[1]
ICE reported approximately 51,000 immigration arrests nationwide in July 2026, surpassing June's 43,000 and marking the highest monthly total in the agency's history.
Officials also said some of those detained in the Atlanta operation included sex offenders and people accused of child abuse.[1]
