Chronic Camden train delays spur $2M federal study
Minneapolis will receive $2 million in federal funding to study grade-separation and other fixes for chronic train delays in the Camden neighborhood, city officials announced Friday.[1]
Canadian Pacific is adding $50,000 to the study, and city leaders said the work could lead to construction beginning around 2030 if projects and funding are approved.[1]
A 2023-2024 City of Minneapolis study recorded 559 train crossing delays in Camden in one year, 11 of them over an hour long. The Minneapolis Fire Department reports trains have delayed emergency crews 307 times in seven years at Fire Station 20 just north of the Humboldt crossing.
City officials say the federally funded study will evaluate grade separation and other options to cut wait times and reduce risks to emergency responders while officials and residents weigh costs and timelines.[1]
