Chipotle has pulled jalapeños from its Minnesota restaurants as the Minnesota Department of Health probes a salmonella outbreak linked to the peppers.[1]
The company used its ingredient traceability system to identify a common jalapeño lot and removed those peppers statewide at MDH's request.[1] Chipotle said it replaced the jalapeños with product from other growers.
The Minnesota Department of Health reports 110 salmonella cases in the state linked to the outbreak as of early August 2026. Of 84 interviewed patients, 75 said they ate at Chipotle between June 1 and July 14; the remaining patients reported eating at a variety of Mexican-style restaurants.
State health officials are continuing interviews and traceability work to confirm the source and stop further illnesses.
