Hennepin County presses Abbott to extradite ICE agent
Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty on July 30 asked Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to sign extradition papers to return ICE agent Christian Castro to Minnesota to face criminal charges.[1]
Castro was arrested May 29 in Cameron County, Texas on a Hennepin County warrant and is charged with four counts of second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and one count of falsely reporting a crime.[1] The complaint says Castro's claim that he was attacked with a broom and shovel is contradicted by surveillance video, witness statements and ballistics.[1] It also alleges ICE agents gassed the home, detained four adults and delayed paramedics from reaching Julio Sosa-Celis for nearly an hour.[1]
The alleged shooting happened Jan. 14 in north Minneapolis, according to prosecutors, and that incident prompted the warrant that led to Castro's May 29 arrest in Texas.[1]
