Brother Of Slain CJNG Leader Pleads Guilty In U.S. Drug Case

Antonio Oseguera Cervantes pleaded guilty Friday, July 31, 2026, in federal court in Washington, D.C., to U.S. drug-trafficking and firearms charges and faces a mandatory minimum 15-year sentence.[1]

He admitted to a conspiracy that moved at least 450 kilograms of cocaine and 45 kilograms of methamphetamine into the United States from January 1998 through December 2022.[1] He also pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking conspiracy.[1] Oseguera Cervantes was extradited from Mexico in February 2025, and sentencing is set for November 13, 2026, before U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell.[1]

Nemesio "El Mencho" Oseguera Cervantes, the cartel's co-founder and Antonio's brother, was killed by the Mexican army in February 2026.[1] His death sparked waves of violence that left more than 70 people dead, authorities reported.[1]

The Trump administration designated the Jalisco New Generation Cartel as a foreign terrorist organization in 2025.[1] U.S. officials have recently sanctioned more than 50 individuals and entities tied to the cartel, including its reported new leader, Juan Carlos Gonzalez.[1]
