Ex-senator Nicole Mitchell files for Woodbury council
Nicole Mitchell has filed with the Minnesota Secretary of State to run for a Woodbury City Council seat in the November 2026 election.[1]
She says her campaign will focus on four priorities: science-based decisions, keeping costs low, greater transparency and better representation.[1] Woodbury's council races are nonpartisan and at-large, with four-year terms.[1] Two seats currently held by Steve Morris and Jennifer Santini are on the 2026 ballot.[1]
In July 2025, Mitchell was convicted of first-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools for breaking into her stepmother's Detroit Lakes home. She was sentenced in September 2025 to six months of work release at Ramsey County Jail. She resigned her Minnesota Senate seat after the conviction.
Her filing returns her to electoral politics and sets up a local contest for Woodbury voters in November.
