U.S. UN Envoy Plans Crackdown On Haitian Gangs' Social Media Revenue

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz told the U.N. Security Council on Monday, July 20 that the United States will soon act to stop Haitian gangs from monetizing social media content.

Waltz, who recently visited Haiti, said gangs use social platforms to celebrate killings, issue threats and recruit children with music and videos showing cash and weapons. He also told diplomats that the U.S. is preparing this week to strip temporary protected status from about 350,000 Haitians in the United States, a move that would expose many to deportation. Waltz reiterated those aims while testifying Wednesday before the House Foreign Affairs Committee in Washington.[1]
