Xi Launches China-Led Global AI Group And Offers Training To Developing Nations

Chinese President Xi Jinping on July 17, 2026, launched a China-led global artificial intelligence cooperation organization in Shanghai and pledged training and system access to developing countries as a counter to U.S. tech curbs.[1]

Xi said China will provide 5,000 AI training opportunities to developing countries over the next five years and promised access for 30 countries to a Chinese-developed AI meteorological early-warning system.[1] He told the World Artificial Intelligence Conference that AI development should not be "dominated by any single nation," and he called U.S. export curbs an example of 'overstretching' national security in AI.[1]
