Teen charged with murder in fatal Minneapolis hit-and-run

A 19-year-old Minneapolis woman, Riniyah Allen, was charged Tuesday with second-degree murder and two counts of criminal vehicular homicide in a May 15 hit-and-run that killed a veteran near 43rd Avenue and 53rd Avenue East.[1]

Court papers allege Allen intentionally accelerated into Amos Ferrier as he tried to stop a theft from his car, then drove away and dumped the contents of his stolen backpack.[1] Ferrier died in the hospital two days after the crash.[1]

Ferrier was an Army combat medic veteran and the internship director at Rick's Coffee Bar/Every Third Saturday, and he was killed while confronting the suspects during a veteran graduation event, according to the complaint.[1]

Allen is jailed in Hennepin County and is scheduled to appear for a next court hearing on June 18.[1]
