ICE Agent Accused In Minneapolis Shooting Arrested In Texas On Warrant

Christian Castro, an ICE agent sought in a Minneapolis shooting, was arrested Friday, May 29, 2026, in Texas on a Hennepin County warrant.[1]

He was taken into custody by agents from the Department of Homeland Security's watchdog arm with assistance from Texas and Minnesota law enforcement.[2] The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension tracked Castro's whereabouts to Texas, leading to his arrest on a Hennepin County warrant issued earlier in May.[1]

On January 14, 2026, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said Castro fired into a home knowing people inside posed no threat.[1] Moriarty said the bullet passed through a door, struck Julio Sosa-Celis in the leg and ended in the wall of a child's bedroom.[1] Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said the shooting appears unwarranted and accused Castro of lying to ICE supervisors to justify his actions.[1]

DHS initially said Castro fired a defensive shot after being attacked with a shovel or broomstick.[1] Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons later said video showed Castro and another officer appeared to make untruthful statements in sworn testimony.[1] Federal prosecutors are investigating whether Castro lied under oath, and state prosecutors expect an attempt to remove the case to federal court though Hennepin County would still prosecute if that happens.[1]
