RNC And NRCC Sue To Protect Missouri Congressional Map From Referendum

On Thursday, May 28, 2026, the Republican National Committee and the National Republican Congressional Committee filed suit to defend Missouri's new congressional map.[1] They asked a court to bar certification of a referendum that would restore the prior map until petition signatures are fully verified.[1]

The complaint says Democrats and allied groups have already spent more than $6 million on unsuccessful legal challenges to Missouri's maps.[1] Republican lawyers cited the U.S. Supreme Court's recent Louisiana redistricting ruling to argue against race-based map drawing and to defend legislative authority over mapmaking.[1]

Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe signed the current congressional map into law in 2025, and opponents say it violates the state constitution.[1] Opponents collected petition signatures seeking a referendum to restore the previous map, and the new lawsuit seeks to pause certification until election officials verify those signatures.[1]
