Suspect Arrested In 2008 North Carolina Double Murder After 18 Years

Johnny Steven Talbert, 43, was arrested Thursday, May 21, 2026, in Port Angeles, Washington, on charges including two counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery tied to a 2008 Concord double slaying.[1]

Talbert is jailed without bond in Washington as he awaits extradition to North Carolina, and Concord police called the arrest a "major cold case breakthrough." CBS News Concord police said renewed evidence testing and the development of previously undeveloped leads in late 2025 produced the break that led to Talbert's identification and arrest.[1]

On June 13, 2008, Donna Barnhardt, 59, and Darrell Noles, 44, were shot at Concord's Sun Drop Bottling Company.[1] He was detained in Port Angeles, about 3,000 miles from the Concord crime scene.[1]
