Israel Intensifies Strikes On Hezbollah As U.S.-Brokered Ceasefire Frays

On May 25, 2026, Israel struck more than 70 Hezbollah targets across southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, signaling a sharp escalation as the U.S.-brokered ceasefire shows signs of fraying.[1]

Lebanon's National News Agency reported at least four people were killed and three wounded in an airstrike on Kfar Rumman, and three more were killed in nearby drone strikes the same day.[1] Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted a video saying Israel would "increase the blows" and cited ongoing Hezbollah fiber-optic drone attacks.[1]

A senior U.S. State Department official said Hezbollah has launched more than 1,000 drones and 700 rockets since the April 17 U.S.-brokered ceasefire and has ignored an American ultimatum to stop.[1] Israeli and Lebanese military officials are due to meet again at the Pentagon on Friday to discuss the ceasefire and security arrangements.[1]

The renewed strikes and the scale of unmanned and rocket attacks risk widening a confrontation that U.S. diplomats have worked to contain, making the upcoming Pentagon talks a critical test of whether diplomatic pressure can restore the ceasefire.
