Mayo Clinic rolls out AI to flag palliative-care patients
Mayo Clinic said it is deploying an AI platform co-developed with Bayesian Health across its hospital network to flag patients who may need palliative care.[1]
In a randomized clinical trial of more than 3,000 Mayo patients, the tool increased palliative-care referrals by 44%. Mayo reported associated reductions of 25% in 60-day readmissions and 28% in 90-day readmissions.
Mayo Clinic and Bayesian Health co-developed the platform and tested it inside Mayo hospitals before the rollout. Hospital leaders said they will monitor clinical outcomes as the technology scales. They see the tool as a way to help clinicians identify patients with unmet serious-illness needs earlier.
