State launches summer-long speeding crackdown
Minnesota law enforcement has launched a summer-long crackdown on speeding and other traffic offenses beginning over Memorial Day weekend and running through Labor Day.[1]
State and local agencies say the campaign will focus patrols on speeding, distracted driving, seat-belt use and impaired driving.[1] Officials said stepped-up enforcement will include targeted patrols and checks designed to reduce crashes and save lives.
In 2025, Minnesota recorded 388 speed-related serious injuries and 102 speed-related fatalities. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day 2025, 111 people died on Minnesota roads; 31 of those deaths involved speeding and 37 involved alcohol.
Speeding 10 mph over the limit typically brings at least a $100 fine, with doubled fines at 20 mph over and a six-month license suspension possible at 100 mph or more.
