California Doctor Convicted In $45 Million Medicare Botox Fraud Scheme

A federal jury convicted Dr. Violetta Mailyan on May 19, 2026, of running a $45 million Medicare fraud scheme tied to Botox injections at her Glendale clinic, the Justice Department said.[1]

A jury found her guilty on nine counts of wire fraud and three counts of obstruction of a criminal investigation, prosecutors said.[1] Prosecutors said Mailyan submitted more than $45 million in false Medicare claims for Botox through Healthy Way Medical Center in Glendale.[1] DOJ analytics showed she received more than $24 million from Medicare over four years, about six times the next highest group of providers, which prompted the investigation.[1] Prosecutors said the fraud funded luxury vacations and even a $12,000 crossbow.[1]

DOJ investigators said she billed for injections that were unnecessary, never provided, or cosmetic, sometimes on dates she was traveling or when the clinic was closed.[1] They allege she falsified and backdated patient records to conceal the fraud.[1]
