Oklahoma Executes Raymond Johnson For 2007 Hammer And Arson Murders

Raymond Johnson, 52, was executed by lethal injection in Oklahoma on Thursday, May 14, 2026, and was pronounced dead at 10:12 a.m.[1]

Johnson had been sentenced to death for the June 2007 murders of his ex-girlfriend, Brooke Whitaker, 24, and her 7-month-old daughter, Kya, in Tulsa.[1] Oklahoma's Pardon and Parole Board unanimously denied clemency in April 2026, and no last-minute U.S. Supreme Court appeal was filed to halt the execution.[1]

In June 2007, prosecutors said Johnson beat Whitaker with a claw hammer, then doused her and the home in gasoline and set it on fire, killing both victims.[1]

Johnson's execution was the 11th in the United States in 2026 and Oklahoma's second this year; Florida has carried out five executions so far in 2026.[1]
