Allegiant completes Sun Country merger, keeps MSP hub
Allegiant Air has completed its purchase of Sun Country Airlines, creating a combined carrier while keeping Minneapolis-St. Paul as a key hub.[1]
The combined carrier will have a fleet of 195 aircraft, serve nearly 175 cities and operate more than 650 routes, with both brands and rewards programs unchanged in the near term.[1] The merged company said it will ultimately operate under the Allegiant name from Las Vegas.[1] Company leaders said Minneapolis-St. Paul will remain a key hub and that Sun Country's Amazon cargo and charter operations will be integrated.[1]
Allegiant secured regulatory and shareholder approvals before completing the purchase.[1]
For now, both airlines say customers should see little change in schedules or loyalty benefits as the carriers integrate operations.[1]
