FBI: Police Killings Fell In 2025 As Officer Assaults Hit Decade High

On Monday, May 11, 2026, the FBI released 2025 data showing felonious killings of U.S. law enforcement officers fell to 53 while officer assaults reached a decade-high rate.[1]

The 53 deaths were down from 64 in 2024, and all but 10 of the 2025 deaths involved gunshot wounds.[1] The FBI reported officers were assaulted at a rate of 13.8 per 100 officers in 2025, the highest in a decade, and 445 officers were injured by firearms.[1]
